Rating: 4 quick stars

Summary: A very rich man finds a dead man in the trunk of his very expensive car. How did it get there? Who is he? How much cocaine can he snort in a day? A twenty four hour romp through a self absorbed man in deep trouble.

Comments: A short story with lots of blood and lots of cocaine. Also, lots of macho BS.

Gravesend by William Boyle

Gravesend by William Boyle

Rating: 5 bleak gritty stars

Summary: The brother of a murder, hate crime, is seeking revenge for his brother of the recently released killer. A cast of characters is brought together in a tight knit neighborhood in Brooklyn NY and mixed up in a blender and spit out in a bleak gritty hard boiled character drive by.

Comments: There is so much to describe with Boyle’s debut Gravesend. What Cormac McCarthy did for the desert SW, Boyle does for Brooklyn. Boyle will be the next giant author.  Must read and lessons on writing a novel of destruction and brutality. Wowzer!
